Come join Button Poetry at Icehouse on February 17th for a headlining set from forthcoming Button Poetry author, Brenna Twohy. With performances from Rob Mitchell, TaneshaNicole. Hosted by Sarah Ogutu.
Brenna Twohy is a storyteller and a law student currently living in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She is a two-time Portland City Slam Champion, a three-time National Poetry Slam competitor, and the author of two collections: Forgive Me My Salt and Zig-Zag Girl. She is passionate about magic tricks and dismantling the prison industrial complex.
Rob Mitchell is a poet born and raised in the south, originally heralding from Atlanta, GA. Writing has always been a form of catharsis and a bastion of creation for Rob, even from a young age. Growing up a quintessential, middle-class blerd, Rob’s poetry finds its foundations in the Black experience, the complications and divisions created by wealth, and anime. When Rob isn’t performing poetry in Minneapolis or across the country, he can often be found haunting the halls of Target, talking about sales, or in a friend’s basement, playing yet another 10 hour board game.
TaneshaNicole (they/them) is a Black queer non-binary poet living in the Twin Cities, MN by way of Salt Lake City, UT. Tanesha is likely more interested in your cat or your zodiac sign than actually talking to you. They are a Pisces Sun with a Capricorn Moon that means something to them. TaneshaNicole has represented Salt Lake City in national competitions such as CUPSI (2014, 2018), IWPS (2015), WOWPS (2016 top 10 finalist), and most recently NPS (2018) where they placed 4th overall with their team. Their work has appeared or is forthcoming in Button Poetry, SLCC Bruin Voices Series, Write About Now, TEDx, Voicemail Poems, peculiar, Ink&Nebula, Prickly Pear Printing, and an anthology entitled Sycorax's Daughters.
