Over the last year, rising Oakland rapper Kamaiyah has proven to audiences nationwide that she has what it takes to be rap’s next big superstar. Kamaiyah launched her debut mixtape, “A Good Night in the Ghetto”, in 2016, receiving rave reviews from Pitchfork, and landing her in Rolling Stone’s “40 Best Rap Albums of 2016.” With a sound that reflects years of perfecting her craft, Kamaiyah first became interested in music when she was eight years old, inspired by acts including Bow Wow and Snoop Dogg. For many of her teen years, she experimented with her look and sound, and started the local crew Big Money Gang with rappers Joe Banguh, HottBoy Zay and the Baybee. Today, her sound borrows heavily from 90s R&B and rap, blending funky electronic sounds with dance influences that amplify her no-nonsense lyrics. With more momentum than ever, Kamaiyah is looking to continue on her mission spread a positive message with her feel-good music, with festival dates set throughout the US this summer.
AIR CREDITS, a mashup of The Hood Internet and ShowYouSuck, is known for their soulful performances that are similar to the sounds of the late Jackson 5. Dubbed a “supergroup” by The Chicago Tribune, AIR CREDITS first hit the stage in 2016, releasing their first single together, “All I Need (Part II),” a celebratory, soulful jam in anticipation of their debut. Meanwhile, “Part I” is a different creature entirely, fashioned from a more modern tapestry of woozy, warped synths. AIR CREDITS has worked with Los Angelesbased Kyle woods, known for his work with Solange Knowles’ Saint Heron label, and Professor Fox, who collaborators include Chance the Rapper, Mac Miller and Vic Mensa.
A Minneapolis resident, Sophia Eris is a DJ/MC who has moved through various influences that have left her with a stirring ear for booming new hip hop. She is currently the touring DJ for the newly Atlantic Records signee, Lizzo. Together, the two have opened for acts including SZA, CHVRCHES, Sleater-Kinney and more. Sophia and Lizzo have also performed for David Letterman and Stephen Colbert, and just recently broke through on the Emmy nominated daytime TV hit, The Real. This summer, Sophia and Lizzo will continue to slay the festival circuit worldwide. Listen to all the artists’ music below:
