Aby Wolf:

Vocalist and songwriter Aby Wolf has attained broad recognition as the midwest region's premier vocal talent through stirring solo performances and collaborations too numerous to mention.  She has recently returned home to Minneapolis after several tours abroad with Dessa of Doomtree, performing in theaters and art centers across Australia and New Zealand, as well as clubs and cafes throughout Europe and the UK.  Wolf continues to turn heads with her most recent solo album "Wolf Lords," created with Brooklyn-based producer Grant Cutler.  Catch Aby Wolf performing with a full band at Icehouse on Friday, July 1st, as she celebrates the release of her newest Cutler collaboration.

Bones and Beeker:

Wax Poetics Records’ new Minneapolis-based duo Bones & Beeker is a band that combines hip-hop-production sensibilities with classic, harmony-focused singer-songwriter musicianship.  Anthony Newes (vocals, guitar, keys, and other sounds) and BK-One (production, drum programming, keys, glockenspiel, kalimba) were introduced through their work with the developmentally disabled. Their first meeting was a five-minute conversation about Tom Waits. Their second was at a client’s deathbed.

BK-One is probably best known for his decade of work with rapper Brother Ali, yet he has a background as a jazz musician and has produced music for French singers, brass bands, and Brazilian legends.  Anthony Newes, who spent years studying audio engineering as well as improvisation and music theory, formed a critically celebrated rock band while in Eureka, California and earned a reputation playing folk music in the old Minneapolis haunts of Dylan and Guthrie.

When the two artists decided to work together, they faced many challenges, often arguing about how to properly balance two radically different musical sensibilities. Both were way out of their element, and each song was a strange new compromise.  Flanked by bassist Chris Bierden (Poliça and Pony Trash) and guitarist Nate Collis (Atmosphere and Attracted to Gods), Bones & Beeker delivers an album full of surprises. Their self-titled long player was released November 13, 2015, on Wax Poetics Records.
